2018 Cabernet Sauvignon

Fishman’s favorite vintage of Cabernet to date--intense and structured with amazing red fruit. Will age forever but drinking well already.

As with the Pinot, our Cabernet also benefited from the cooler growing season and saw our latest harvest date ever, September 25. Where 2016 was very light, and 2017 pretty heavy, I think 2018 splits the difference in a good way, bringing delicate aromatics along with a full, well-rounded mouthfeel. I love the way that this vineyard shows off the floral side of Cabernet, which is often lost if the grapes are harvested later. There’s also plenty of tannin and structure on the 2018. I have been careful about predicting a long life for wines made without sulfur, but as the years have started to pile up, I’m becoming more and more confidant that the absence of sulfur is not going to be an impediment to a long life for our Napa Cabernet. It’s hard to resist drinking this right now, but I think it is going to get better and better with age, and should last at least 15, if not 25 years or more.
